GAME WRITING: TTRPG SAMPLES

WHERE EVIL LIVES, MCDM PRODUCTIONS

Flee Mortals and Where Evil Lives are a pair of TTRPG sourcebooks published by MCDM as compatible supplements for Dungeons & Dragons 5e.

While Flee Mortals improves upon The Monster Manual with an array of new rules for existing antagonists and new creatures, it also includes more “Boss Monsters” - Where Evil Lives is a book dedicated to “boss battles”, with fifteen adventures set inside the lairs of powerful, evil villains and unique monsters that populate those lairs.

I was commisioned by MCDM’s lead designer, James Introcaso, to write an adventure for 13th-Level Characters to showcase MCDM’s infernal devil monsters and their lead devil character - Chancellor Lazivos.

I created Eight City Advocacy Services; an infernal law-firm, based in an extra-dimensional pocket reality and serving clients from all over the timescape - while also acting as a front for a nefarious intelligence gathering agency.

Presented here are the first few pages of the advenure - in case you don’t have access to MCDM’s excellent products.

FROSTHOLME, SELF PUBLISHED

Frostholme is a mini-RPG written and designed by me. Frostholme is set in a world of permanent winter, where cute little anthropomorphic animals traverse an endless forest that’s riddled with obstacles and horrors.

The system is intentionally simplistic, built on assembling handfuls of six-sided dice -the sort of thing that non-roleplayers can pick up pretty fast.

The setting is a mash up of very cute Christmas iconography and horror tropes - I enjoy exploring juxtaposed themes in much of my work. In particular, I enjoy finding humour in conventionally humourless senarios.

Here’s the most recent version of the Frostholme game system with excellent artwork by Ben Hollands.
